- The Lebanese Democratic Party(LDP) is a political party founded by the Lebanese minister Mir Talal Arslan in 2001. Mir Talal is son of Durzi leader Magid Arslan and has presided the party ever since it's establishment. Emir Mageed Arslan opposed and struggled against the French and demanded their withdrawal from Lebanon until in 1943, Arslan, Hamadeh and Abi Shahla created the “Government of Free Lebanon” with Habib Abi Shahla as Prime Minister. Over a period of 35 years, Emir Mageed Arslan held various ministerial posts.He died in 1983. His son Talal served as the deputy of the Aley District in 1991, 1992, 1996 and 2000. From 1990 to 1992 he was the Lebanese Minister of Tourism, from 1996 to 1998 he was Minister of Emigrants and was appointed Minister of State twice from 2000 to 2003 and from 2003 to 2004. Arslan founded the Lebanese Democratic Party in 2001. The Party is officially secular but most of its support is from the Druze Arslan family. The LDP have only reached the Lebanese parliament one time in 2000 and failed to have any candidates elected in 2005.
